Response Time

Please give a 2-5 month window to be notified if your submission has been accepted or denied.

Keep in mind: it is not guaranteed that your submission will be accepted. The Editorial Staff determines this, along with making any edits/adjustments to the work(s) if necessary (if this is the case, you will be sent a copy of the edit(s) for approval). *Please be patient with us as we are a brand new independent publication, and with that being said, we are still working through the kinks. This publication was extremely needed in the community, as your many submissions have validated that, and we are doing our very best to create a better response system. Thank you so much for your patience! :)

Submitting

Simultaneous submissions are accepted.

Please allow NO MORE than 2-3 submissions per person, per quarter.

If your submitted work has been previously published we ask that you allow a 6 month window from when it was last published before submitting again. If your work has been accepted elsewhere please withdraw your work from consideration. Please note we do give preference to original and unique work to The OWJ. The OWJ holds first publication rights for one year after publication.

Edits

The Oklahoma Women's Journal holds the right to edit work once said work has been submitted and accepted by the OWJ editorial staff. Upon acceptance, the editorial staff then will decide which volume to publish said work. An Oklahoma Women's Journal team member will be in contact for author's approval. Keep in mind, if your work requires heavy editing, this may lower the chance of being accepted for our print publication.

Format

All written submissions need to be in either Word format or Google docs. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT A PDF COPY OF YOUR WRITINGS. All art and photography submissions need to be submitted in pdf's, jpeg's, or png's. If you are submitting a prose piece we ask that you use the traditional APA Style.

Bio

Please include the name and a short bio (less than 400 words). If you are on social media, please include your handle so we give you credit and/or tag you in order to help promote your work.  Attaching a few high quality photos of YOU to your submission is a bonus! We actually love this and can add it in your spread [designed by OWJ staff] to be published next to your submission!!

(Please be sure the photos are high resolution and not cell phone photos unless it is in 300 DPI.)

Legalities

We want to be able to share every single story we receive, however, in order to practice ethical journalism there are certain legal obstacles we face. If a submission we receive lists a specific establishment(s) and/or real person(s), it is our legal duty to change the names of said person(s) and/or establishment(s) to be anonymous.  Every submissions acceptance or denial goes off a case by case basis with the editorial staff having final say. UNFORTUNATELY, WE CANNOT ACCEPT ALL SUBMISSIONS.
